American Flag : Why the Upside-Down Flag Disrespects the Values of July Fourth

American Flag : Why the Upside-Down Flag Disrespects the Values of July Fourth. Having served our country for more than 50 years, my family has always made the Fourth of July a special occasion.

American Flag 2024

We commemorate freedom and togetherness on this holy day and pay tribute to the men and women who have defended American liberty.

Our flag, the representation of our nation, is the focal point of July Fourth celebrations. Each and every federal building is covered by it. regularly raised in all primary schools. draped over the caskets of dead pilots, sailors, soldiers, and marines.

Given to a surviving spouse or family member, neatly folded. However, right-wing, so-called patriots have recently turned the very emblem of unity into a weapon of discord; their acts really work against our freedom, democracy, and everything our flag stands for.

Every Fourth of July, I recall my first memories of parades, cookouts, and celebrating the values our flag stands for. My parents were US Navy personnel.

After serving four years in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of World War II, my father was sent to Korea for two years, leaving my mother to care for their two small children. I have an uncle who fought on Iwo Jima and two uncles who landed in Normandy on D-Day.

Though I have led three Fortune 500 firms as CEO, most notably General Motors, my most fulfilling professional experience was serving nine years as a member of the U.S. Navy, protecting our nation and flag.

My family and I had always served our country; there was nothing particularly exceptional or exceptional about my duty.

My sister, brother, and I went to San Diego elementary school when we were young. As a driven fourth grader, I ran for office and won the title of “Flag Monitor” for the school.

In my first leadership role, I had specific duties such as hoisting the flag before school each morning, lowering it after school each afternoon, and folding it neatly at the end of the day.

I carried out this routine every day of the academic year, which was a reasonable degree of accountability for a fourth grader. I had the impression that I was doing something unique and significant even at that young age.

Raising and lowering our flag with reverence honors our nation’s founding documents, liberties, heritage, and way of life, to name just a few things. The significance of the symbolism extends beyond Americans to the ideals we represent to the rest of the globe.

I was shocked to learn that one of our Supreme Court justices had flown the American flag upside down outside of two of his residences. The flag was reportedly left in this position for days; given this, it is only reasonable to conclude that Justice Samuel Alito.

And his spouse were making a political statement unworthy of any public servant, much less a high-ranking government official tasked with upholding the Constitution. Traitors who rushed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, covered themselves in flags, making a similar “statement” and destroying the democracy they profess to adore.

As a proud American who has run significant American corporations and served in the armed forces.

American Flag, I implore anyone who identifies as a patriot to consider all the children in our country who respectfully salute, raise, and lower our flag before using it as a political talking point. Like our democracy, we must handle our flag with honor and dignity.
