Beverley Mitchell, best known for playing Lucy Camden on the long-running family drama 7th Heaven, recently opened up about what she calls her “least favorite day” on set—the day she filmed her character’s wedding while battling a severe illness.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Mitchell reflected on her time on the series, which ran for 11 seasons from 1996 to 2007. When asked about memorable moments, she didn’t hesitate to recall one particular day that stood out—for all the wrong reasons.
“I can tell you one of my least favorite days on set,” Mitchell said. “When Lucy got married, because I was deathly ill and we had a massive wedding scene. It was our 150th episode.”
The episode, “We Do,” saw Lucy Camden finally marry police officer Kevin Kinkirk, played by George Stults. It was a milestone moment for the character and the series—but behind the scenes, Mitchell was struggling.
“It was one of those days I had to smile and I thought I was going to die. Of course it was like, I was the star,” Mitchell recalled.
She added that she “just wanted to go to bed” the entire time but had to push through the demanding production.
Mitchell was not just dealing with a minor cold. At the time, she was suffering from multiple infections. In a contemporary interview from 2003, she described her condition in more detail: “I had pretty much any infection you could name when we shot that — sinus infection, ear infection, lung infection, high fever. It was really rough.”
Despite feeling terrible, Mitchell had to perform a major wedding scene with a full cast, guest stars, and an elaborate production—all while maintaining the cheerful demeanor required of a bride on her wedding day.
The episode, which aired April 21, 2003, was the 150th episode of 7th Heaven and featured the return of former cast members Barry Watson (Matt) and Jessica Biel (Mary), who played Lucy’s older siblings.
