The official title of Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four film has been announced.

Fantastic Four: First Steps was the film’s title revealed on Saturday at Marvel Studios’ much awaited panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Furthermore, the film’s composer, Michael Giacchino, who took home an Oscar for his work on Up, was revealed.

Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is directing the most recent iteration of the iconic Marvel squad, which debuted in comic books in 1961, and it is scheduled to open in theaters on July 25, 2025.

Starring in the film are Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), and Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic).

Pascal earlier this week posted the first cast photo of the stars of the next Fantastic Four movie with the comment, “Our first mission.”

There will also be appearances by Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich. The screenplay was also written by WandaVision’s Peter Cameron, with credits going to Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer.

The Fantastic Four made their big screen debut in 2005 with a film directed by Tim Story and starring Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, and Michael Chiklis as the group’s eponymous characters.

This followed an unreleased feature film directed by Roger Corman in the 1990s. Despite being a box office hit and inspiring a 2007 follow-up, the movie received negative reviews from reviewers and only has a 28 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Later, the group was reconstituted for Josh Trank’s 2015 motion picture, which starred Jamie Bell, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, and Michael B. Jordan.

Compared to the 2005 movie, this one did not fare as well at the box office and only has a 9% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.
