Gold medal match for Yusneylis Guzman following Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification
In case you missed it earlier today, Vinesh Phogat of India was eliminated from the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling category after she failed to meet the weight requirements on the second day of competition in order to compete for the gold medal.

Because she weighed more than the permitted 100 grams, Yusneylis Guzman of Cuba, the opponent she beat in the semifinals, advanced to the final, where she would meet Sarah Hildebrandt of the United States, in about an hour.

The bronze-medal match between Susaki Yui of Japan and Oksana Livach of Ukraine, the two women Vinesh defeated earlier in the competition, has been rescheduled from a repechage contest.

Australia wins the gold in men’s team pursuit.

The men’s team pursuit final is about to begin. Since 2004 in Athens, Australia has not taken home this trophy. This title was won by Great Britain in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Yesterday, the Australians broke the global record. Is it possible for them to replicate that today?

Both teams get off to a quick start, trading small leads through the first four kilometers. It’s a dead heat. The teams separated by just 0.007 seconds at 1km.

Around 2 km in, Australia gradually starts to distance itself as the deficit widens to a tenth, then two tenths.

With 1.5km remaining, both teams reduce to three men, and the difference is two tenths of a second. Recall that time pauses for the third man to cross the line.

As the British trio closes the difference to less than two tenths of a kilometer remaining.

It’s going to be really close! The two teams are separated by 0.168 seconds on the bell lap—oh no!

In the final seconds, Great Britain almost loses it, but Ethan Hayter manages to hold on!

Gold went to Australia in 3:42.067. Italy claims bronze, and Great Britain claims silver. The 20-year gold drought is now gone.

Olympic men’s park champion Keegan Palmer continues to win
There is still just one Olympic champion from the two men’s skateboard park Olympic finals!

Keegan Palmer of Australia wins back the title with a solid opening performance of 93.11.

Tom Schaar of the USA scored three excellent runs, but his second performance of 92.23 wins him the silver medal.

Augusto Akio of Brazil wins bronze with a final run of 91.85, narrowly defeating Pedro Barros, his teammate.

After Palmer celebrates by thumping his board on the ground, Barros and Tate Carew rush him and hoist him onto their shoulders.

Table tennis: Team event semifinals are scheduled

This morning and this afternoon saw the final four quarterfinals of the men’s and women’s team table tennis competitions.

Germany defeated India 3-1 and People’s Republic of China defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the women’s event. As a result, Germany will play Japan and China will play Republic of Korea in tomorrow’s final four.

On the men’s side, hosts France defeated Brazil 3-0 to set up a difficult semifinal matchup with hot favorites China. Republic of Korea was defeated by China by the same score.

In the other men’s semi-final this evening, Japan takes on Sweden.

Basketball: Belgium defeated Spain to go to the semifinals.

In the third quarter, Belgium maintained their edge and built an 18-point lead that was enough to win them the game. In the fourth quarter, Spain rallied and cut the lead to 11 points, but Julie Vanloo’s clutch three-pointer ignited the fans and the Belgium bench, and Spain was unable to draw any closer.

Belgium won the match 79–66 in the end. In just their second Games appearance, Belgium makes it to the Olympic semifinals.

After the game, Vanloo (13 points, 7 assists) commented, “It’s been a difficult week for us.” “I believe that everybody wrote us off after our disastrous start. But we’ve battled back against all odds, and it’s incredible that we made it to the semi-finals.”
